John 1 – Going to Damascus

John 1

John 1:1-8

1)      In (the) beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and God was the word.

2)      He was in the beginning with God,

3)      all came into being through him, and not one was created apart from Him. That which has come into being

4)      in him was life, and this life was the light of men.

5)      And this light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.

6)      A Man arose, having been sent from God, his name (was) John.

7)      He came for a testimony in order that he might bear witness about the light, in order that all might believe through him

1:9-13

9)      Being the true light, who gives light to all men, coming into the world.

1:14-15

14)   And the word became flesh and took up residence in us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of the one and only from the Father, full of grace and truth.

1:16-18

16)   Because out of his fullness we all received, and grace after grace.

17)   For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18)   No one has seen God at any time, the one and only God being in the bosom of the father, he has made that one (Christ) known.

1:19-30

19)   And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and levites from Jerusalem in order to ask him, “Who are you?”

20)   And he confessed and did not deny, and he confessed that I am not the Christ.

21)   And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, I am not. “Are you the prophet?” And he answered, No.

22)   Then they said to him, “Who are you? In order that we might give an answer to the ones who send us? What do you say about yourself?

23)   He said, “I am a voice crying in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, just as the prophet Isaiah said.”

24)   And they had been sent from the Pharisees.

25)   And they asked him and they said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ nor Elijah nor the prophet?”

26)   And John answered them saying, “I baptize in water, in the midst of you stands someone you do not know,

27)   The one coming after me, who I am not worthy even to loose the strap of his sandal.”

28)   These things took place in Bethany  on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29)   On the next day he saw Jesus coming to him and he said, “Behold! The lamb of God , the one who takes away the sins of the world!”

30)   This is the one I said about, “After me comes a man who is in front of me, because he was before me.”

1:31-42

31)   And I did not know him, but in order that he might be shown to Israel through this I came and baptized in water.

32)   And John bore witness saying, “I have seen the spirit coming down like a dove out of heaven and he remained on him.”

33)   And I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize in water says of that one, “Upon who do you see the spirit coming down and remaining on him, this one is the one who Baptizes in the Holy Spirit.

34)   And I have seen and I have witnesses that this one is the Son of God.”

35)   On the next day again John stood and of his two disciples,

36)   and looking at Jesus walking he said, “Behold the lamb of God!”

37)   And the two disciples heard him speaking and followed Jesus.

38)   But turning around, Jesus saw the ones following him saying, “What do you seek?” and they answered him, “Rabbi, (which of itself says it is translated teacher), where do you stay?”

39)   He answered them, come and you will see. Then they came and they saw where he was staying and with him they remained that day. It was the tenth hour.

40)   Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter, one of the two hearing from John and who had followed him.

41)   Andrew found this one first, ones own brother Simon and he said to him, “We have found the Messiah (which is translated the Christ).

42)   He led him to Jesus. Looking at him Jesus said to him, “You are Simon the son of John, you will be called Cephas”( which is interpreted as Peter).

43-49

43)   On the next day he wanted to depart to Galilee and he found Phillip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

44)   Now Phillip was from Bethsaida, out of the town of Andrew and Peter.

45)   Phillip found Nathaniel and he said to him, “We have found the one Moses wrote of in the law and the prophets, Jesus the son of Joseph from Nazareth!”

46)   And Nathaniel said to him, “Can anything good be of Nazareth?” Phillip said to him, “Come and see.”

47)   Jesus saw Nathaniel coming to him and he said concerning him, “Behold an Israelite truly, in whom there is no treachery!”

48)   Nathaniel said to him, “From where do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Phillip called you I saw you being under the fig tree.”

49)   Nathaniel answered him and said, “Rabbi, if you are the Son of God, you are King of Israel.”

50)   Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, you have faith? You will see greater things than these.”

51)   And he said to him, “Truly, truly I say to you all, you will see heaven having opened and the angels of God going up and coming down upon the son of Man.”
